Webinar series by the four innovation spaces

The four bioeconomy innovation spaces cordially invite you to inform yourself about projects and innovations in the bioeconomy on five dates. In the first webinar date, you will receive an overview of the variety of topics in research and development of the four innovation spaces (introductory date, 26.01.2022). In the following four dates, one of the innovation spaces will invite you to dedicate yourself to a specific topic from the diversity of the bioeconomy with presentations and discussion.

The event will take place as an online webinar via the ZOOM platform on each of the dates listed below from 2.00 to 4.00 pm. After the event (from 4 p.m.) there will be an opportunity for informal exchange with the speakers.

26.01.2022: Introduction and presentation of the four innovation spaces

With a guest lecture by the Bioeconomy Council, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from industry and research.

09.02.2022: Algae - Champions of the blue bioeconomy

The diversity of micro- and macroalgae holds a hitherto hardly tapped potential for human use. Algae thus represent one of the most important feedstocks for the blue bioeconomy. In this event, we will provide an overview of the latest findings in basic research, give a voice to German companies that are already successfully using algae in their ventures, and venture an outlook on the potential of algae in various key sectors of the bioeconomy.

23.02.2022: Indoor/Vertical Farming - Potentials for the Bioeconomy in Germany?

Driven by climate change, an increased need for resource-saving and location-independent food production systems, technological innovations and rising market and consumer demands, vertical farming is increasingly becoming the focus of media and investors. By 2025, a global market volume of up to 15.7 billion US dollars is expected. In Europe, too, investments in the double-digit millions are now being made in the field of vertical farming. In this webinar, a wide range of players from industry and research will shed light on the potential of vertical farming for the bio-based economy in Germany.

09.03.2022: Biological waste (e.g. waste from food production/agriculture) and biobased polymers as a substitution of petroleum-based raw materials for innovative textile materials

In the long term, the goal must be to become independent of fossil raw materials. The sources of recycling and biomass play a central role in this. For a sustainable circular economy (economic, ecological, social), it is indispensable to make residual materials usable again in high-quality products. In addition to the use of locally available residual material flows, locally produced, renewable-based raw materials (e.g. biopolymers) also help to reduce dependence on fossil raw materials.

The webinar will present existing solutions and innovations from industry and research. The presentations are intended to provide a holistic view of the value chains and a subsequent discussion.

23.03.2022: Assessment of bioeconomic process chains

In order to be able to establish bioeconomic process chains in the future, they must be economically and ecologically convincing. In Bioball, quantitative criteria have been developed to evaluate value chains. In the webinar, different methods will be presented that use the innovation spaces to evaluate the sustainability of the innovative products.
